MailboxValidator Passkey Authentication

Passkey Authentication

Introduction

Passkey authentication is a modern, secure, and user-friendly alternative to traditional passwords. Instead of typing a secret string of characters, a passkey uses cryptography and the built-in authentication methods of your device, such as your fingerprint, face recognition, or a PIN, to verify your identity.

These passkeys are based on the FIDO (Fast IDentity Online) standards and consist of a unique cryptographic key pair: a public key stored with the website or service, and a private key securely stored only on your device (like a phone or computer). This setup makes them highly resistant to common threats like phishing, as the private key never leaves your device and cannot be guessed or intercepted like a password.

This process is significantly faster and eliminates the need to remember complex passwords or use two-factor authentication codes. Because the passkey is tied to your physical device and requires a local bio-metric or PIN confirmation, it offers a much stronger defense against remote hacking attempts and credential theft than traditional passwords, marking a major step forward in online security.
